for the people who hate their job & want to quit/change careers but don’t know what they’d do instead… I’ve been there, & when I reflect on my 3 year process of doing so (from realizing I couldn’t stay in public accounting forever to finally leaving), these are the things that helped me actually make my career change at 27 one of my most asked questions is how I got the courage to walk away from public accounting and step into a new career after spending SO much time & energy to work in the field. it’s terrifying, risky, and not usually respected to do so - especially in your 20s, since most career changes happen later in life - but life is FAR too short to wait to feel “ready” to make the change (& fyi, you never will feel ready. as humans who crave predictability & safety, we’ll always find an excuse to not be “ready” to do something risky & outside of our comfort zone) I’ve had this saved in my drafts for so long because I felt like I needed to say all the right/perfect things in order to finally press post. but this is my imperfect human experience and what it’s taught me as someone who walked away from the safe & predictable route & refused to spend another year hating my life every day. & I hope it helps those of you feeling the same 🫂
