i’ve been finding joy in reconnecting with creative outlets like drawing and painting lately. at some point i decided to start illustrating the little spells and affirmations that i have scribed in my notes and journals over the last year. the only way i really knew how to approach my transition was to mythologize it, the same way we do anything that feels too unfathomable in this life. every medical test would be a blood sacrifice, every pill a potion. neil gaiman once said that that’s all fiction is: telling truth through lies. magic itself is just a word we use for that which is mysterious. this chapter of my life, more than anything, has been that: a leap into the unknown. maybe you are in the midst of your own dance with the mystery, as i suspect you are. maybe there’s a spell in here for you. if so, let me know. 🔮
