Around this time 3 years ago after KLFW I had my first hard conversation with Andrew & @klfashionweek . We spoke for 2 hours with my managers present about many things, the future of fashion, “misunderstandings” and of course model payment. He knew, unlike the article. He knew & promised. Year 2019 I was paid on time- in advance even- but months later many of the new models who walked with me were left unpaid and waiting despite my efforts to help them out by personally messaging and “having conversations”. The stories of backdated owings from my generation of models also hung heavy & left a bitter taste in my mouth. I remember, this happened to me. Why was I paid & glamourised and the rest left behind ? The silence is loud. Truly. Everyone in the industry knew models weren’t paid properly. But the show was too essential. To watch other people support and celebrate an organization that has wronged you year after year can make you feel small and insignificant. “Why do people support this event” “Why can’t they boycott” “if they don’t pay, why do u walk for the designer, it’s still KLFW stage” “If it was true why don’t people do something about it” He heard rumours I was gonna protest. He called me and promised payments made in the day. He promised me he’s clearing owed debts. He said it was his old teams fault. Whatever man. I’ve heard promises before tho. I am glad this long term problem was solved by 15 mins of a foam board in the air in the hands of one crazy model who knows no shame. Underhanded, sure. But effectiveness over looking like an idiot again for believing “promises” again. Now everyone can attend @klfashionweek in the coming years knowing models will be paid. Nothing can solve the distress and frustrations of the models who waited and chased for their money all these years previously, that is between them and Andrew, but this is a step forward. Thanks to everyone resharing, caring & the media being on top of this KLFW 2022 models are all paid. I will be following up with everyone who was owed from other years. If u want a lawyer, tell me.
