Lingerie looks from Vivienne Westwood’s Autumn/ Winter 1997-1998 ‘Five Centuries Ago’ collection! For this collection, Vivienne wanted to explore the English Renaissance period, when Queen Elizabeth I was the reigning monarch. However as this was a Westwood collection, she made it provocative and salacious combing jackets and knee-length skirts with lingerie! The collection played with the idea of lingerie as outerwear, an idea Vivienne continued from her previous Spring/ Summer 1997 collection. Many tops and dresses were low cut, exposing quarter cup bras and brassieres while many skirts had high slits revealing suspender belts. The lingerie was made in collaboration with Vivienne’s son Ben Westwood, who was previously a photographer known for his erotic images. The runway show took place at the cabaret club, Lido de Paris located in the Champs-Élysées. Alongside supermodels like Jerry Hall and Helena Christiansen, showgirls from the Lido also modelled for the collection. The videos shown in the post feature models getting ready backstage and were filmed by Ben Westwood himself! Like the collection, the full video is quite racy so I can’t show to much on Instagram, however there will be a link in my story!
