I really thought the conversation around diets was starting to improve. To move away from shaming people and their food choices. To change the narrative of foods being “bad” or “good”, “clean” or “cheating”.
My bubble was burst a few days ago when I saw a post on an account that I have followed for a while saying if you aren’t careful, eating these foods will make you gain weight (picture included said foods)
Wow I crashed back to earth pretty hard and although in myself I don’t feel too affected by the comment, I remember how I would have felt a few years ago and how others would still feel about it now.
These are the things that I needed to hear back then...
YOU ARE WORTH SO MUCH MORE THAN WHAT YOU EAT AND HOW YOU LOOK.
THERE IS NO ROOM FOR SHAME WHEN IT COMES TO FOOD.
FOOD DOES NOT HAVE A MORAL VALUE.
A STRANGER ON THE INTERNET DOESN’T KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOU.
YOU CAN EAT AND EXERCISE EXACTLY THE SAME AS SOMEONE ELSE AND LOOK COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
I promise it gets easier to drown out the noise. I promise you will find even more enjoyment in life when you let go of the weight of that judgment and expectation.
2 things I never would have done when listening to diet culture: eat pizza or sip a margarita 🍸
