"Every time I download images from a camera trap, it’s like Christmas-time; you never know what you’re going to get, but it’s often really, really cool! These images were recently downloaded from trail cameras as part of an effort to assess how monitoring by eDNA methods compares to results from camera traps. Whenever I see elusive animals like grizzly bears, mountain goats, cougars, wolves, wolverines, and Canada lynx on camera, I feel hopeful because I know that despite facing many challenges, they are still out there, even if we don’t often see them in the flesh. I’m looking forward to 2023 as we continue to put the data we’re collecting toward understanding how to monitor wildlife more effectively. I am super keen, as always, to continue learning more about these majestic species and all the others we’re trying to conserve."
