Last Friday we celebrated the official unveiling of Blanketing the City V on the North Shore. ⁠ The fifth work in the Blanketing the City series features designs from artists Debra Sparrow @qwasen⁠ (xwməθkwəjˀəm), Chief Janice George @chepximiya⁠ (Skwxwú7mesh), Willard ‘Buddy’ Joseph (Skwxwú7mesh), and @anggeorge_weaver⁠ (səlilwətaʔ ɬ), depicting the story of the Great Vancouver Fire and the role that Indigenous first responders played in bringing people to safety.⁠ ⁠ The completion ceremony on October 14th was led by Aaron Williams from Squamish Nation and took place on the shores of the location of the Esha7an village (also known as the Burrard Dry Dock Pier, Shipyards District, North Vancouver).⁠ ⁠ ➡️ Learn more about Blanketing the City in the Community Projects page on our website ⁠ ⁠ ———⁠ ⁠ Commissioned by @cityofnorthvancouver⁠⁠ ⁠ ⁠ Special Thanks to the Public Art Program at the City of North Vancouver⁠⁠ and to Mayor @linda_buchanan_cnv for joining us!⁠ ⁠ 📷 @mavreendavid⁠ ⁠ #BlanketingtheCity #unveiling #publicart #mural #IndigenousArt
