What's all the hype around HIIT workouts?! 💪
HIIT (high intensity interval training) workouts consist of short bouts of intense work lasting followed immediately by a period of active rest. They are super popular for good reason - they have a ton of great benefits! These include:
✔️ Burning a lot of calories in a short amount of time
✔️ Enjoying an increased metabolic rate for hours after your workout
✔️ Helping you lose fat, while building muscle
✔️ Improving oxygen consumption & blood flow
✔️ Reducing your heart rate (AFTER the workout - not during 😅)
✔️ Helping to reduce blood sugar & blood pressure
Here are 5 quick HIIT workouts that you can do to take your workout to the next level! 📈
🚶 On the treadmill (or at the park): 20 second sprint followed by 90 second walk. Repeat 4-5 times, cool down with an easy 5 minute walk.
🚲 Cycling: 20 seconds max pedaling, 90 seconds light cycling, repeat 4-6 times, cool down with 2 minutes light cycling, followed by 2 minutes of walking
🏋️ Dumbbell full body circuit: do each exercise and then do a 30 second wall sit in between each
#1- arm dumbbell row (10 reps each arm)
#2- wall ball squats (12 reps)
#3- standing dumbbell press (10 reps)
#4- front plank (30 seconds or longer)
🏊 Swimming: 1 lap sprint, 1 lap slow swim, repeat 4-6 times
🥊 Boxing: 30 second freestyle at max intensity, 60-90 seconds walk around, repeat 4-6 times.
FUN FACT: as we age we sweat less! 🥵 Strange, but it's true! As we reach our 50’s and 60’s the sweat glands shrink and become less sensitive. No matter what your age, be sure to stay hydrated, especially while working out! 💧
