AD100 designer Ariel Ashe (second image with her husband filmmaker Zach Heinzerling and their daughter) spent her childhood summers on Martha’s Vineyard. After buying a condemned Cape house there in 2017, Ashe daydreamed about the property for two years. In 2019, she broke ground on the classic but updated farmhouse she conceived with her architect business partner, Reinaldo Leandro. (The two cofounded the firm @ashe_leandro.) “While the exterior is very clearly in the New England vernacular, we had a bit more freedom to explore in the interior,” says Leandro. Of the many decorative references inside, Ashe says “I really wanted the rooms to take you away. Even though Martha’s Vineyard is a vacation spot in its own right, you can’t beat a rental house in Patmos filled with 20 different blues, or an old Italian farmhouse with thick plaster walls surrounded by olive trees.” Family duck Puddles tests the Moroccan tiles in the kitchen.
