Most of us invest in the start-up phase of our relationships (e.g. the wedding and honeymoon) and then set ourselves on autopilot without formally discussing our feelings, desires, goals and needs — until something goes wrong. By scheduling weekly or monthly check-ins, we can reduce tension, improve understanding, cultivate empathy and nip issues in the bud before they erupt into bigger problems. . Relationship check-ins do not need to follow a specific format. They can be semi-formal (e.g. a conversation with notes over brunch) or more casual (a text chain you update every afternoon). It’s up to you to decide what works for you knowing that talking about your feelings, needs and concerns will likely help to deepen understanding and connection. . You might start with these simple prompts: . What’s on your mind as of late? What are you most excited about? What’s stressing you? How can I support you? . Brandon and I worked through a longer version of the Relationship Check-In on the podcast. It’s unscripted & unedited and the link is in my bio! . And...These Qs are also relevant to talking to kids & friends.💕
