Two new Foot Guards Public Duties Companies (PDCs), are being formed, resurrecting the traditions and ethos of the historic and battle honoured 2nd Battalion Irish Guards.
Today Number 12 Company Irish Guards undertook their first Queen’s Guard Mount, changing the guard at Buckingham Palace.
They were supported by the Band of the Irish Guards, the Drums and Pipes of the 1st Battalion and the Regimental Mascot Irish Wolfhound Turlough Mor.
Number 9 Company has deployed to the Falkland Islands.
The 2nd Battalion Irish Guards saw action in two world wars before being placed into suspended animation.
Now it has been partially reactivated in two Companies: Number 12 and Number 9 Company.
The changes are part of the plan for Future Soldier which is transforming the army to make it more operationally effective in response the rapidly changing global threats.
