As a junior, he achieved a ranking of #934 ITF, posting a 57 percent win rate. Nicolas went on to attend Division I Bethune Cookman University, and later transferred to Division I Troy University, graduating from TU with a BA in Communications with a minor in Sports Management. Nicolas excelled as a student-athlete at TU, and was named to the 2021 Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll.
