my first-ever ✨ paint-by-numbers ✨ community mural created for Berenice Bash in @northcenter last weekend! swipe to the end to see it get filled in so perfectly - the last slide is the near-final version. I’ll be doing some final touch-ups, painting the background, & adding some detail to it next week & then it will live in the alder’s office 💕 the event brought local artist, makers, & residents together to get creative, check out creative products, & spend time in an underutilized lot. organized by @aldermanmattmartin & his team, it was a smooth, fun, & sweet celebration of art, creativity, & community. over the last months, ive been working with alderperson martin’s team to revamp the arts council of the 47th ward. the council, currently called OpenWall, is a group of artists (professional and hobbyist), art lovers, & other folks interested in art & located in the ward or nearby. since my art studio is in the 47th (and my old apartment, until I moved a few weeks ago), im excited to be supporting in the ways I can in order to help art advance the ward in many ways: as a bridge, a foundation of belonging, a means of shared understanding, a means of place- & meaning-making, & a way of improving our communities & the well-being of residents. if you’re interested in joining the council as a volunteer, please reach out to the alder office or DM me! all are welcome & we’ve had many different types of art represented so far on the council (music, ceramics, illustration, painting)! #chicago #chicagoland #chicagogram #chicagoart #chicagoartists #chicagoartist #communityart #communityarts #communitybuilding #mural #communitymural #paintbynumbers #paintbynumber #paintbynumbersforadults
