I had always wanted to get married in an Irish stone ruin— I had always seen it in my head that way. But practicality somewhat squashed the idea and we married instead in a manor house right out of my Pride & Prejudice dreams. But Thatcher hadn’t forgotten the ruins and while going into town the morning of our wedding with every debit card we had and even those of some of our guests to max out every cash limit - paying for cakes, butter for welcome gifts, tips for the bar man, payment for a sheep on demand, Thatcher had seen a stone ruin. So before we walked down the aisle, we changed the plan, stuffed my Vera into a fiat rental car and went to the ruins. Elizabeth made portraits of us there. And then a couple of hours later, some ten years ago, I married my best friend in a hedge maze in County Cork. As promised in the best-man speech, we picked up characters along the way, our Emerson Irish the best of all. Happy Anniversary my @hullerman ❤️ You always find the treasures on the trip to a bank and I’m grateful for how you see the world and invite me into it.
