Fall Skincare Tips 🍂 During the summer months when there’s more humidity in the air, a gel-based or gel-cream moisturizer may be enough to keep your skin hydrated. As the weather cools,⁣ gets windier and drier, there is less humidity in the air, and the cooler, drier air can strip moisture from our skin. Our skin is dynamic, and changes with the environment so it’s helpful to pay attention to your skin needs. Try out the following 3 tweaks to your skincare routine and see if they make a difference for your skin!⁣ ⁣ Switch to a thicker moisturizer — if you’re using a gel or lotion-based moisturizer, up it to a gel-cream (which has a higher oil:water ratio). If you need more hydration, up it to a cream-based moisturizer. If you need more, you can either add a few drops of oil to your moisturizer, or opt to apply a thin layer of an ointment which is the thickest moisturizer base of them all. ⁣ ⁣ Get a humidifier—it helps increase air hydration levels by adding moisturize into the air, so that less oils will be stripped from the skin by the environment ⁣ ⁣ Look for ingredients in your moisturizer that restore a healthy skin barrier like:⁣ •Ceramides—healthy fats that seal in moisture around skin cells to keep the skin barrier functioning and intact (we have these naturally in our skin, but we start making less and losing more ceramides starting in our 30s and 40s)⁣ •Allantoin—an emollient that keeps skin moisturized and prevents dryness and irritation ⁣ •Hyaluronic acid—a humectant that holds 1000x times its molecular weight in water, and acts like a sponge that pulls water to the skin’s outer layer⁣ •Glycerin—another favorite humectant that hydrates skin⁣ ⁣ Have you noticed if your skin changes with the weather?
