What is the word ‘Black’ in ‘Black Cultural Institutions’? Why does it seem like there are so few black-led arts organisations outside of London? What does it mean to operate within or without the mainstream?
On Tuesday 19th July, 4 - 6pm, the Stuart Hall Foundation is inviting an intergenerational panel to come together for an online discussion to reflect on the challenges of building and sustaining Black arts and culture institutions in Britain.
The conversation will be chaired by Ian Sergeant, and will feature @gtawadros Chair of the Stuart Hall Foundation, @lisaandersonaa Director of the Black Cultural Archive, Marlene Smith, former member of the BLK Art Group and current Director of The Room Next to Mine, and @maia_group Creative Director, @amahra_as .
‘#ReconstructionWork: Building Black Cultural Institutions’ is an event that will take place online and is supported by Arts Council England.
Live closed captions will be provided.
