I’ve always rolled my eyes at the phrase “hurt people hurt people,” but it perfectly describes social media and people choosing to attack, diminish, humiliate and/ or “school” others. Hit-and-run, anonymous snipers whose unsolicited opinions run the gamut from balloon-popping to puppy-stomping. I know better than to read the comments - but sometimes I forget or think “This post is about a child battling cancer, there is no way anyone would leave a hateful comment” and then I am once again sadly proven wrong. Look at this art I made... “It’s ugly.” I’m finally learning to love and accept myself and feel happy... “Find Jesus or burn in hell.” I need to express sadness or frustration about something... “Grow the fuck up and stop crying.” You know that question “If you could push a button and kill a complete stranger and you’ll get a million dollars, would you do it?” Well, these comments are like that but without the monetary temptation. It’s literally getting off/shooting up by the very act of being awful to another human being. And yes, I’d like to think that the majority of these trolls are merely bot accounts and not a true representation of the current state of humanity (or the lack thereof), but... And just clarify, this is not about someone calling me names or insulting me personally. This is about people shitting on almost every single post I see - no matter what it’s about. Sadly, these are clearly people who are frustrated with the fact that they have no voice or power in this world. So I guess they should be pitied...? 💜
