This morning was the first morning in five years that I woke up in my apartment without Fig pawing at my face and begging for his breakfast. Yesterday I lost him to cancer, and he took a piece of my heart with him. I adopted him at the beginning of the pandemic, when I truly needed a companion the most. But he gave me so much more than just companionship. He gave me endless comfort, love, laughs, memories, and purpose. Saying goodbye to him was excruciating, but I find peace in knowing that he is no longer in pain. Hug your fur babies a little tighter today, and cherish every single moment you have with them 🖤
