Black Girl Magik was inspired by Founder Shydeia who grew up longing for sisterhood, healing, and community. The consistent themes she experienced were loneliness, lack of identity, and longing for community care attending 9 schools between the ages of 10-18. In high school, she experienced her first sister circle and made a promise to herself that one day she would create a space similar. At the age of 21, becoming increasingly aware of need to be met, BGM was created in 2015 and that longing was fulfilled. Over the next seven years 10,000+ Black women have been empowered to step into their purpose, create community, and commit to their wellbeing through BGM events. And now are taking that mission further, with our educational wellness platform @bgmsanctuaryschool.
