The Queen’s Life Guard, which guards the official entrance to the Royal Palaces at Horse Guards, became The King’s Life Guard at the moment Her Majesty The Queen’s death was announced. They are made up by members of The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and their permanent presence dates back to the Restoration of the Monarchy. The first ceremony to mark the Changing of the King’s Life Guard for 70 years, took place on the 9th September. The Life Guards took over duties from The Blues and Royals. Their Standard (Regimental Flag embroidered with their battle honours) was draped with a black ribbon of mourning for the death of Her Majesty The Queen. The Life Guards was founded by King Charles II in Bruges in 1658, while still in exile, and was known as His Majesty’s Own Troop of Horse Guards. It is the senior regiment of the British Army. @household_cavalry @britisharmy @theroyalfamily @the.guards @theroyalparks @ministryofdefence @dcmsgovuk #kingslifeguard #kingcharlesIII
