Feeling a loss of joy in your life? ๐
But donโt know why?
And have no reason to?
I wanted to address this as a large number of you told me last week that a lack of joy was most concerning you, but also because it is #WorldMentalHealthDay
Loss of joy is a common symptom of menopause and you may feel or experience:
๐No pleasure in many of the things you once loved doing
๐ Reduced interest in activities
๐ You just canโt enjoy the small things
๐ Feeling frustrated in yourself
๐ Feeling sad, upset or emotionless....
Does this sound familiar?
Please remember it is your mind and bodiesโ response to the hormonal changes that are taking place....
When hormone levels drop, serotonin levels also fall, which contributes to our inability to feel pleasure.
Take one day at a time and focus on the smaller things...
There are a number of ways to help cope with the emotional changes that menopause brings.
Some of these are staying connected to friends, family and community, keeping a symptom diary, try getting into the habit of doing exercise at set times so your mind/body gets used to your routine, smelling your favourite scent, and so on.
Medically there are also a number of ways to help balance symptoms. NICE guidelines advise HRT as first line for menopause associated low mood. But sometimes midlife can feel like a perfect storm : bereavement, empty nest, divorce - so please do talk to someone.
How has it impacted you and have you found anything helps boost your symptoms?
