S is for SEDUCTION Day 19 of the A-Z for the Horror Show! Letter S and, let’s face it, we’re spoilt for choice. From sorcery to spectres, suspense to static, sex to suburbia, surveillance to spells. But we’re going with seduction - an essential tactic of horror. The temptation, setting the trap... usually represented of course as a feminine power. In horror films one of our favourite moments is the mesmerising scenes of seduction in Jonathan Glazer’s ‘Under the Skin’. The visuals inextricably entwined with the score, by the phenomenally talented Mica Levi. Hands down one of the greatest soundtracks. For viscerally embodying a mix of sexuality and menace, ’From Lipstick to Void’ is unsurpassable. It captures perfectly the role of seduction in horror - the dangerous undertow of the heart-overruling-the-head, leading to the inevitable deep black hole. ‘Under The Skin’ cinematographer Daniel Landin features in the show via a very early project, his experimental militant classicist group ‘Last Few Days’. We’ve been working with Daniel recently, and his work still blows our mind. The Horror Show! Has many seductive moments. One of the pinnacles is by @junocalypso - a hypnotic video from her Honeymoon Suite. To us, it feels haunted by the bathroom scenes from ‘The Shining’. Juno said: “All of my work essentially boils down to two things: desire and disappointment. And I like to find humour in the path from one to the other.” It’s just like some of the best love songs; absurd, delicious, bittersweet and melancholic. A real treat. In the show you might spot a moment from Chris Cunningham’s video for ‘Only You’ by the ever- seductive @portisheadofficial . Or hear the opening refrains from @adamsonbarry masterpiece ‘Moss Side Story’. You’ll have to come and find out.
