1. RED ROCKET Kind of a curve ball number one pick but I loved Red Rocket so so much! Unreal how watchable Simon Rex is as Mikey Saber - a washed up porn star who returns to his home town where he has long ago burned all his bridges. I could watch him be a god damn dirtbag all day long. I so badly wanted to see him win an Oscar for this role but if you can believe it, the Oscars have yet again had the audacity to ignore most of my personal favorite movies/performances. I laughed so hard in this movie that I choked in the theater and then coughed a whole bunch so I’m sure I ruined everyone else’s experience BUT I had a blast. Excellent *NSYNC cover by Suzanna Son and I was again really blown away by Sean Baker’s directing. Will be rewatching this one a lot. Red Rocket is available on VOD And that’s all for this year! Some other movies I really loved that were on the list at one point were Shiva Baby, C’mon C’mon, Flee, Benedetta, and the most unhinged of the year, Malignant.
