🎊We had a great time at CELEBRATE SOCRATES! 2022 Annual Benefit Party on September 22nd! Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Nueva York (@bfmny) opened the evening with a procession through Spacetime CC leading into a La Sandunga waltz in traditional Oaxacan gala costume. Our fashionable emcee's Deidrea Miller (@deidreamiller) and Myles Miller (@mylestv) kicked off the evening with clear city views behind them. Attendees mix and mingled, sipped on palomas and crisp IPA's from @singlecutbeer , explored the space and grounds of Spacetime CC, and enjoyed grilled skewers and churro bites (@rcanoeventsny) . 'Umbra' the limited edition by Alison Saar (@alison_saar) was on view alongside sculptures and paintings by the Park's founder Mark di Suvero and Spacetime CC studio artists. District 26 Council member Julie Won (@cmjuliewon) shared proclamations for our honorees. "Every visitor matters [at the Park and with public art]" said Paul Ramírez Jonas (@paulramirezjonas) , as Guadalupe Maravilla (@guadalupe__maravilla )presented his former professor, now colleague and friend with a "Heavyweight" award. Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, Jr. @queensbprichards honored Stuart Match Suna (@sms13) for his deep investment with Long Island City and culture in Queens. Commissioner @nycimmigrants , Manuel Castro, reflected on the amazing talent and work of Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Nueva York for amplifying Mexican culture in New York City. In true fashion, BFMNY closed their thank you with a final performance, inviting attendees to partake in the celebration on the dance floor. DJ Vinyl Richie (@yovinyl) continued to the end of the night with festive beats. This year we raised over $365,000 for the Park and had a great time - in true Socrates fashion! Your support allows us to continue working with artists to create new public art, provide free educational workshops and public programming to thousands of people each year.
