The wrap mural "Unity of Culture", featuring a different Indigenous artist on each wall of the Vancouver Aboriginal Child & Family Services Society (@VACFSS), is officially complete!
Starting from the North wall, designed by Jonas Jones, the mural includes three elements: a wolf, a thunderbird, and salmon eggs and heads. Resembling their host nations who belong to lands, the salmons unite them as one people.
In Calvin Charlie-Dawson/Ts’kanchtn's mural on the West wall we see a Coast Salish style canoe, common to the Squamish people. Upon the canoe there are 3 symbols: a wolf for the Tsleil-Waututh Nation, a Salmon for the Musqueam Nation, and a Thunderbird for the Squamish Nation.
The South wall mural by kwəlasəltən Mack Paul represents the stal̕əw̓ (river) which the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) people have resided on since time immemorial. The six faces symbolize the moon and its relationship with the water as well as the community.
You can see the murals at 2020 Yukon st.
