Instagram vs Reality: Iceland edition by @macs_explore 🇮🇸
Here are 5 tips to help you make the most of your trip (save post for later):
1. To avoid crowds, visit popular spots early in the morning or later in the day. For example, if you plan to go to Blue Lagoon, go first thing in the morning when it opens. If you’re in Iceland in the Summer, you get the benefit of experiencing the midnight sun so try to visit popular places like some of the waterfalls late at night.
2. Have flexibility in your schedule. If you cram too much in, you leave no room for spontaneity or changes to your schedule if things like excursions get canceled.
3. Dress for ALL types of weather in Iceland, even in the Summer. This means packing warm layers–including a down jacket, rain jacket, hat and gloves! The weather can be cold any time of year and the wind makes it even colder!
4. Explore off-the-beaten path. Even though the South of Iceland is the most popular area of the country to visit (and for good reason!), that doesn’t mean there aren’t just as beautiful areas elsewhere. Consider visiting the north, the Westfjords (our favorite), the Snaefellsnes peninsula, the Highlands, Vestmannaeyjar, or the East. Lots of hidden gems all over Iceland!
5. Plan on staying in Iceland for at least a week if you can. Everyone that goes to Iceland for just a few days (or less) regrets not staying longer. Give yourself a minimum of 7 days to experience Iceland, ideally more. There is so much to see in this incredible country. Trust me, you don’t want to rush it!
Is Iceland on your bucketlist? And if so, would you rather go in the Summer and experience the midnight sun or the Winter to see the Northern Lights?
