Hey Ranger, where is the best place in the part to see the bison?
While the bison range within Badlands National Park was expanded a few years ago to include most of the north unit of the park, the bison haven't quite figured that out yet. The Sage Creek Rim Road and the Sage Creek Wilderness Area remain the best places to explore for a chance to see our national mammal.
The Sage Creek Rim Road is a gravel road that can be accessed from the 240 Loop Road near the Pinnacles Overlook. Along with the opportunity to see bison, Sage Creek Rim Road also offers access to three more overlooks, Roberts Prairie Dog Town (one of the largest in the park), and the Sage Creek Campground.
