Ever since becoming a mother, I’ve found my interest in connecting how West African traditions strongly played a role in my upbringing. But that interest turned into a passion after my husband + I visited Ghana one fall! I’m amazed at how recipes and culture traveled the trans-Atlantic by word of mouth alone. And how all these generations later still influence African American culture as a whole. So when I was introduced to @elisamama, a Black, female-owned brand built to empower women and create legacy through fashion, I knew I wanted to introduce their dresses to Charleston. Their beautiful, lightweight pieces are handcrafted in Nigeria and uplift the local artisan communities by giving women + mothers opportunities.
