Earlier this week I was googling local mountain legend and retired CU Math professor Bill Briggs for an article I’m writing when I came across a conversation that @alpineworks and I had with Bill nearly a decade ago (Joe transcribed and published it on his website). Despite being a prolific multi-sport mountain enthusiast—Bill has many first ascents in climbing to his name; he was one of the first persons back in the 1970’s to ride his bike from Boulder to Longs Peak, climb it, and pedal back—Bill’s closing sentiment in the conversation (or, at least where Joe decided to end it), was an absolute classic: “But there’s just nothing really quite like running. You know the feeling.” Indeed. Though I share a similar penchant for multi-modal mountain pursuits, I was lucky enough to know that feeling on my long run this morning.
