This is Lyra, a very young red tail hawk. Rescued after an accident and subsequently going through rehabilitation, she was designated as unreleasable by authorities. So... she needed a place to go. Because of her years of working with birds, my superstar trainer friend, Heather Gunn Pens, got the call — and, now the Aquarium of the Pacific is her forever home. I’m not sure who’s luckier — Lyra or the Aquarium. Lyra is working with Heather and her other trainers... flying, and adapting to her home. What an unforgettable privilege I had today, getting to meet this extraordinary animal.
