We asked @byaccident.paraccident what it takes to curate a captivating collection while finding beauty in the unexpected. āœļø With the support of @fellowship.xyz, Erik brought a 500 token drop to a total mint out in just a few hours. Read the full case study at the link in our bio šŸš— Erik Bulckens took on the curatorial challenge of a lifetime when he discovered a box of film negatives created by his grandfather Marcel De Baer, depicting vehicle collisions from the '60s and '70s. He could see beauty hiding behind their utilitarian origins. Marcel started out as a motorcycle mechanic in Belgium, but as cars became more popular, people could easily obtain a driver's license without taking a test. This led to an increase in accidents, and the local police were not qualified to investigate. A new committee was formed to document and report on these accidents. Marcel became certified for this position and set out with a camera to document every vehicle collision he could. Two generations later, Erik found those negatives. šŸ«‚ "I realized that if nobody did anything with them, they would either be thrown away or end up in some unknown place". So, he reached out to Fellowship who knew that the best way to socially archive art is on-chain. šŸ“ After painstakingly scanning the entire collection of negatives, Erik and the team began the task of curation and categorization, digitizing the images and their corresponding collision data. They decided to release with Drops at a near-free price point, focusing on wide distribution and secondary market action. With some word-of-mouth help from photography enthusiasts, the collection minted out swiftly, and secondary sales continue to happen. While Marcel originally made the photographs for utilitarian purposes, a new generation of people appreciates them for their artistic merit. The legacy of Marcel Da Baer lives on, etched into the blockchain. #photography #curation #blockchain #belgium #1970s #1960s #decentralized #accidents #caraccident
