The lack of representation in body types in the fashion industry is shocking. Why is this still a problem in 2022? Why during fashion week all around the world, most brands just threw a few plus size models just as a tick for ‘ inclusivity ‘. This is a symptom of the fat phobia in the fashion industry. It is very blatantly obvious when a brands use plus size models as diversity hires. Many brands such as VS promoted eating disorders and unhealthy beauty standards, which has caused physiological and psychological long lasting effects in many young girls and women. People stopped engaging with the VS fashion show because people stopped identifying and idolizing the same type of models they used ( women who fit in the toxic western beauty standards). Now, they are trying to rebrand themselves despite their past of fat phobia and trans phobia. Their only reason for it is because emerging brands such as Savage X Fenty have been gaining popularity due to Riri’s use not only of plus size women, but also men. It is groundbreaking!! This is just one example of many brands who do the same thing. There are many brands who choose to not make their garments in a wide range of sizes. In 2022? A lot of fashion brands need to take notes from designers such as @sjodwyer and @karolinevitto . They represented the unrepresented. They used a range of curve models. When brands want to be ‘inclusive’, they use the same few models. It’s good they are representing us, but there should be a range of plus size models, just like there’s a range of sample size models. In addition, when some designers pick the outfits for the plus size models to wear, put some thought in it. Instead of just gIving them the scraps and give a lot of thought in the outfits of the sample size models.
