PLAYBOOK by @briankennny Almost a year ago I commissioned this piece with Brian. Few delays and some apt remodeling and finally this masterpiece is in its home. I’ve been a fan girl of Brian Kenny since early 2008 when I remember first seeing Slava Mogutin on the cover of Butt Magazine and then quickly found his partner in crime at the time Brian Kenny. Both trailblazers in queer art in NY, this was how my love of NY started and where much of my creative inspiration began. The art piece Brian created is 6.5 ft tall by 4.5 ft wide mixed media textile made up of flag material, fabric, gym shorts, underwear bands, jerseys, and hand painted pieces. My direction for Brian was telling the story of my coming to terms of being gay and my early fetishization of essentially anything “masculine” in my life - with a few added icons that have also always been special to me - the wolf, crown and trophy. The sports aesthetic and team references also run deep for me. Grew up the youngest of 5 boys and even my baby announcement had sports references, saying how excited my family was for me to join the team (see last slide).
