I will forever be SO grateful for Hawaii queens. As a kid and teenager trying to find my way through life, drag queens provided a safe space that was welcoming, thrilling, empowering, and fabulously creative! As a kid, I will NEVER forget what if felt like seeing a drag queen for the first time.. I. WAS. IN. AWE! Captivated! Mesmerized! Amazed! I admired and was instantly drawn to their courage and fierceness. Feeling insecure in who I was and scared to be my authentic self, seeing these magical beings unapologetically living their lives and sharing their art, filled me with courage and hope that maybe one day I could live, create, and perform with that same sort of tenacity. I am SO thankful for the queens in Hawaii and all over the world that have and continue to generously share their light, love, and art with the world. By living and shining the way you do, you have provided this gay boy and many others the hope, inspiration, and courage to live and continue living fiercely and authentically.
