Obsessed with this ca. 1890 view looking NW through the valley that 2nd St. follows from what is now the 110 towards its juncture with 1st/Beverly. Details about the first pic: In the distance from left to right are today’s Burbank Peak, Cahuenga Peak, and Mt. Lee (where the Hollywood Sign is). The houses in the foreground would be where the Harbor Freeway is today - running across lower center. 2nd Street can be seen with a cablecar on the move between the depot (larger building towards the top right) and the right edge of the pic. Further past the trolley depot, where there is a visible white picket fence, you can see where 2nd Street runs into 1st/Beverly. Above the streetcar depot and continued into the second picture is a thicket of trees - that was Second Street Park which once existed on the NW corner of 1st and Toluca. 2nd Street is cutting across the middle of the photo before it disappears behind the hill with the man and horse in the foreground. The hills in the second picture make up today’s Griffith Park. Photo by W.H. Fletcher.
