I’m back, with another UNPOPULAR OPINION!!️ why I DON’T always tone my blondes for the full recommended time ⏰👇🏼
👉🏼 POROSITY - trusting your formula has nothing to do with the porosity of someone’s hair, or a new client you’ve never colored before, sometimes blonde hair will grab faster than we anticipate and this is why I won’t walk away from my toner
👉🏼 BUILDUP ON THE HAIR - sometimes things can affect our color in between appointments (ex: overuse of purple shampoo) and your toner may need more time on the roots vs the ends
👉🏼 generally, I leave my blonde shadows and toners on for a minimum of 8-10 minutes, if the hair needs the full time, I’ll leave it the full time.. HEAR ME OUT:
👉🏼 toning is meant to seal the cuticle, add shine and refine the color, but only SLIGHTLY! using a toner as a crutch to cover hair that wasn’t lifted enough will STILL FADE TO AN UNWANTED TONE EVEN WHEN PROCESSED THE FULL TIME❗️
..therefore I generally DON’T PROCESS MY BLONDE GLOSSES THE FULL TIME! 👏🏼
⚠️ HOT TIP - use CLEAR in your formula if you’re worried it may grab too much, this WILL be a safety net and avoid over deposit ⚠️
