Flip through the first-ever successful images, or “photomicrograph,” of a single snowflake—photographed in 1923 by self-educated photographer Wilson Bentley. ❄️ Bentley went through a lot of trial and error to perfect his technique of photographing snowflakes through a microscope. The result, he hoped, would highlight the beauty of nature and the uniqueness of each flake. His striking work was published in @NatGeo magazine in 1904 and 1923, showcasing the delicate beauty and unique geometry of snow crystals. “Under the microscope, I found that snowflakes were miracles of beauty; and it seemed a shame that this beauty should not be seen and appreciated by others,” Bentley later said of his work.
