Willie & Mattie built the house, I’m here to decorate the table 💁🏾‍♀️✨🎉 — While planning my grandparents anniversary, I followed the same advice I give my clients: 1. “Everybody can’t come” - I know you would like everyone to be a part of your special event. But when it comes to controlling costs it starts with the guest count. I added a livestream option with @bricksgroup for those who weren’t physically in attendance but still wanted to tune in. 2. “Your event should be a reflection of you” - Infuse your personality into your event through the details. An easy yet impactful way to do this is through food. I worked with @sensorydelightscatering @dejavusweets to create a 5 course menu reflective of my grandparents’ favorite foods and their Gullah-Geechee South Carolina roots. 3. “I can give you whatever you want, but be prepared to pay for it” - Events aren’t cheap. Even as someone who has access to whatever I desire, I couldn’t have it all without paying a pretty penny for it. Decide on your event priorities and trust your vendors to provide the best alternatives for your pockets. 4. “Prioritize entertainment” - A DJ (like the amazing @boweezy305) is a given, but what else? I provided a caricature artist, photo booth, live painter, and 5 piece band for our guests to enjoy. Don’t forget to take into consideration the demographics of your guests when booking entertainment. 5. “Let’s celebrate safely” - While we can’t keep canceling and postponing life, the last thing I wanted was to bring the people together, only for them to get sick. I required negative COVID-19 tests within 72 hours of the event and provided masks, hand sanitizers, and comfort wristbands at check-in. 6. “Listen to your planner” - As the granddaughter and hostess, there were times my emotions got the best of me. Fortunately, my planner side was there to reel me back in. Get someone in your corner that will help you make logical decisions.
