When I was invited on this expedition I was excited to hear that the team would have a dual purpose: adventure and science. We climbed 2 walls but we also retrieved water flow data from a moulin, dragged a depth and density measuring radar across the Renland Ice Cap, collected 5 rock samples from Pool wall which will be used for luminescence dating (this will tell us more about the retreat of the ice during the last ice age), deployed a NASA robot to measure the water profile of the Nordvest fjord which informs scientists about ice melt and installed 2 temperature censors on Ingmikortilaq which will be used to track permafrost and temperature change in the rock. These projects were not easy but we had our team scientist @heidisevestre providing endless psyche. We joked that ‘science never sleeps’ as she seemed to always be either doing science or prepping for science. Despite working in the pretty gloomy field of glaciology, Heidi is unrelentingly positive about everything. It was so inspiring to spend time with her.
