Congrats to Keiko Tsuno and Jon Alpert along with @dctvny staff in the opening of Firehouse: DCTV’s Cinema for Documentary Film. It’s the only movie theater in NYC dedicated to screening documentaries and we are so lucky to have this new cinema in our city. I got my start in filmmaking at DCTV in their Youth Media program when I was in high school. If it weren’t for this free media arts program, the time the staff took to teach me the tools and the care in mentoring me along with countless other NYC high school students, I know I would not have known a film/tv production career was even possible for someone like me. I’m extremely grateful for the group of thoughtful filmmakers they’ve fostered and invested in over the years and the cinema is just an extension of that community. I look forward to seeing films there for years to come and maybe one day I’ll even get to show a film of my own :) The theater officially opens tomorrow and is located in Chinatown - 87 Lafayette Street New York, NY 10013.
