On Higher Learning this week we talked about Bill Maher’s attempt to sanitize American Chattel Slavery. Maher tried to divorce America from the particular brutality of its brand of bondage, an went so far as to suggest that we’re too hard on American whiteness for the institution. Bill provided a contextually ahistorical assessment of what our ancestors suffered through, and blatantly ignored how the legacy of American Slavery has affected the fabric of our society.
