πΊπ¦ On November 21, 2013, people in Ukraine went to Maidan Nezalezhnosti (Independence Square) in the center of Kyiv in protest against the fact that then-President Viktor Yanukovych refused to sign the document that Ukraine had been working toward for years: the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU. In addition, people were outraged by corruption, usurpation of power, and pro-Russian policy. On the night of November 30, activists, mostly students, were brutally dispersed by the police, in response to which hundreds of thousands of people gathered in the center of Kyiv and in many other cities the next day.
This post will help you not only see the sequence of events but, most importantly, understand why the Revolution happened and what it meant for Ukraine, Russia, and others, including in the context of the current full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine.
