🔨 I’m often asked if we regret not having upper cabinets, a kitchen reno decision. A quick answer for me - zero regrets! We wanted the space to feel open and airy, and with a small space, upper cabinets can take much of that feeling away. So we decided on lower IKEA base cabinets with @Semihandmade fronts (the DIY wood shaker style that we had professionally painted), and maximizing areas that would have been filled in by spacers. In those spotS, @bcherney took the smallest IKEA cabinet base, cut it to the size needed, and Semihandmade made the custom sized cabinet fronts. He installed the cabinet and created the little slide out, that we fit with @vertspi racks to store my cooking oils and pantry staples. We have another one of these pull outs that’s even narrower that I store my spices in. These might just be my favorite part of the kitchen! 🤗⠀ ⠀ 📌 side note: It’s not widely talked about, but just know you can still get the custom kitchen feel using IKEA base cabinets and Semihandmade fronts, and be able to do it yourself.
