MODERN ARCHIVE: Revisiting Global Architecture Magazine (GA), founded in 1970 by photographer Yukio Futagawa. A vast photographic archive of iconic buildings ranging from the avant-garde Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth house, the Centre Pompidou by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers and the Brion-Vega cemetery of San Vito by Carlo Scarpa (pictured above). ‘They reflect Futagawa’s fascination with the forms and shapes of architecture. Often including people, cars, or plants, the images present the buildings in their local contexts, as part of people’s everyday lives. Not only do they document architectural history, they are also works of art in their own right’— Lena Fritsch in CLOAKROOM Issue 4 Originally published by Global Architecture Magazine / ADA EDITA Tokyo Co.
