Today we honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. By also honoring Nelson Malden.
Malden has been cutting hair for over 60 years and ran his own business in Montgomery, Alabama. Malden first met Dr. King in 1954 and cut his hair regularly. Malden Brothers Barber Shop served as a safe space for men to talk about civil rights and the Malden brothers played an integral role in supporting the movement by creating a space for discussion among customers who were involved in the movement.
The importance of Barbers and Stylists to our communities cannot be put into words.
