With Christmas inching closer, Maggie's counting down the days til she's back at her childhood home, 'Somewhere', in Kerikeri. A special house that was named by its original owners in the 1970s and over fifty years later became the inspiration behind MM's range of circular, traceable, evergreen essentials. As with most ideas, Somewhere was born to solve a problem: Socially and environmentally responsible fashion at an accessible price point. But it also solved a personal problem for Maggie. In February 2018, one year and four seasons after MM's launch, having designed dresses worn by royals and suits worn by the likes of Michelle Obama, it was ironically the simple silhouettes and uncomplicated fabrics of her childhood that Maggie started to feel homesick for. Easy denim that got better with age, breathable merino that saw her through changing seasons, and cotton singlets born to be thrashed. Words like "essentials" and "basics" floated through the office, but "Somewhere" kept ringing in Maggie's ears. For her, these were going to be the pieces that when you pulled them on it felt like walking through the front door of home. Clothes that would bring you back to yourself. And decades from now, we feel confident that Somewhere will still hold up to its original promise.
