EPISODE 3 - presents Yaz’s goal: to be a DJ on the Brunch Crew. It also exposes her weakness: she’s in her head. In this episode, she tries to do an aircheck for the Brunch Crew spot, only to be haunted by her ex- and distracted from completing the audio reel as the impending deadline approaches. In this scene, Yaz comes face-to-face with Porter...not the P.C. she’s known since she was eighteen. P.C. was her big brother who always had her back. He would’ve looked past her turning in the aircheck five hours late. However Porter is a different type of guy, all business and no nonsense. It’s the reason D-1 paid the big bucks to have him take their station back to the top. He sees Princess Charles as a more secure return on investment. With Princess Charles, I wanted to introduce the phenomenon of influencer culture. I’d recently had a conversation with a friend of mine who’s a DJ on a popular radio station. Over the years, she’s recognized how the face of on-air personalities are no longer saved seats for the talented folks with tons of radio experience. Nowadays an over-the-top personality with a social following can quickly take a job that was never on their radar. Fame beats talent every time and Porter sees influencer economics as a more viable option for the Brunch Crew. As bad as Yaz says she wants it, in his eyes, she’s not ready...but in her eyes, she’s trying.
