A juvenile ‘ā, or red-footed booby, lands on the lighthouse railing while practicing flying at Kīlauea Point National Wildlife Refuge.
The 200-acre refuge on the rugged north shore of Kaua‘i is home to some of the largest populations of nesting seabirds in the Hawaiian Islands, and is also known for the picturesque Daniel K. Inouye Kīlauea Lighthouse.
