Korey Riker : RIR V DNB : A Mixtape LINK IN BIO FOR MIXTAPE, FULL CREDITS AND TRACKLIST RIR V DNB is a concept, idea, tool, shadow. Two inseparable, internal companions threaded together. We are all a former life merged with our current self. Seeing more. Seeing less. Seeing better. Seeing worse. In the past, I have released the final result of such inspiration. The darker, less illuminated part of a picture is on display here, superimposed on the source. Expressing the first moment, when a line crosses a line. With this mixtape, I share the phantom that inspires much of my movement and hope to bring the listener to a greater understanding. To introduce those who feed my creativity. To witness the seeds that never stop growing because you never can stop them. When I was 20 years old, just shy of the new millennium, I fell in love with DnB. The music had the spirit of jazz but in a different format. It was the outsider of electronic music. An odd tempo, haunting sounds, chaotic beats. I became so obsessed that saxophone became an afterthought as I was hungry to learn as much as I could about this new music. This led to me buying singles on vinyl and beginning a short-lived DJ career for the rest of my time in college. Once I graduated in 2002, I returned to jazz feeling refreshed and with a new curiosity. How could I utilize this new information to guide future decisions? This mixtape is a culmination that only could have been born out of a time of isolation, curiosity and boredom. Thank you to the many artists who unknowingly contributed to this project. I am forever grateful for the inspiration and hope to meet all of you in due time. Additionally, thank you to my wife for letting me live in my madness for hours on end in my basement studio. RIR V DNB is a pure labor of love. How can that be explained? Think of the one thing that you always wanted. Then think of it existing within you as a part of everyday; like breathing. Then think of the breathing as a living thing that begins to change and then disappears. And then what? Once you get it, what then? You just go on and on until you become what you always were.
