Coach Bugbee enters year 42 @springfieldcollege @scmenslax . When you didn’t think we were watching. You were coaching, roaming the sideline at Stagg field and all over the country on away trips. You payed attention to the details while diligently getting to know us individually and collectively as a team. You cared about who we were as student athletes, more importantly you cared about our development as young men. You didn’t talk wins, loses, championships and NCAA Tournaments, while never murmuring individual accolades. You talked about the journey, the relationships and what it takes to be a good - hardworking person. Coach while you were teaching us these lessons and watching our growth on and off the field. It was all of your a chief Dawg sons that were actually watching you. We watched and learned how to love, to respect others, to be vulnerable and show emotions. We watched how to be a husband, father and a man that works hard. We watched how to carry a ball bucket, move a goal, pick up trash on the field and respect the creators game, after all you did all the blue collar tasks you asked us to do. We watched you give autonomy to your coaching staff, while still being the Godfather of the program and culture. We watched you succeed, we watched you fail, we watched you smile, we watched you cry, we watched how to celebrate with humility, we watched you never disrespect us, we watched you be professional, a man of faith and a family man. We watched you say I love you to your family and players. For the last 42 years we watched a man, coach, husband, father and friend teach us the game of life while winning more than his far share of lacrosse games along the way! To the best coach, mentor, NCAA Coach of the Year, National Champion and one of the winningest coaches at any level in our sport. Thank you for showing up for us consistently and showing us the way. As you say “ you’re our coach for 40 years, not 4” I am grateful for playing and coaching along side you, I’m even more blessed my son received the same gift as I did.
